Each app here was paid for, used every day for a fortnight, and scored on the same five things. Nobody can pay for a spot, and nobody can buy a better score.
We may earn a commission from links on this page. It never changes a rating.

Best pick for AI video
Uncensored photos and videos of your companion on request, with a text chat that stays free and needs no card.
Cheapest entry point
The cheapest uncensored chat going. Almost everything else is missing or basic.
Best for uncensored roleplay
Completely unfiltered, and the character hadn't changed twenty messages later.
Best for romance
Affectionate, with proper iOS and Android apps.
Best free pick
Warm and story-led, and the free tier ran long enough for me to form a genuine view.
Best all-rounder
Chat, images and voice on one subscription, and all three stood up to daily use.
Best for building characters
Two hundred-plus ready-made characters, with a six-step builder if none of them suit.
Best memory
Kept a conversation alive for weeks. Pictures are the garnish; the conversation is the meal.
Pressed for time? Head straight to the ranking. It's the shortlist: seven apps, what each is genuinely good at, and what it'll cost you once any launch special runs out.
We don't skim a landing page and paraphrase it. I build a character, chat with it every day, and see whether it still remembers my name almost two weeks later. Prices are checked from inside a paid account rather than lifted from the marketing.
| We rate | We're looking for |
|---|---|
| Conversation | A personality that holds for weeks, not just one clever answer |
| Memory | Last Tuesday coming back without a reminder |
| Media | Images and voice that belong to the same character |
| Price | The renewal cost, not the first-month teaser |
| Controls | Export, delete and content settings that are easy to find |
After one subscription that covers chat, pictures and voice? Candy AI. After conversation that still feels like someone's there a week on? Nomi. Not ready to pay yet? Sweetdream is the only free version here that's more than a demo.
Treat the ranking as your shopping list and the reviews as the evidence behind it. If you only care about free options, start with Sweetdream or Replika. The scoring rules are all in how we review.
A paid account, daily use and at least a fortnight per app. Each one gets the same five scores (conversation, memory, media, price and the control you keep over your data), and the review is written afterwards, never beforehand.
They don't. Some links are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you subscribe, but every score is locked before a company contacts us. Details are in the affiliate disclosure.
Candy AI if you want everything in one plan, Nomi if memory matters more than images, and Sweetdream if you'd like to try the category without spending anything.
